ABOUT ME
CAL NIELD
Like many who enter the therapy profession, I was probably initially motivated by a need to heal my own wounds, as there is definitely something in the idea of the ‘wounded healer’.
We all have our own journey, and therapy is all about yours. Having the experience of my own therapy throughout my psychotherapy training, I am aware of how it feels to be in that place, and how important it is to feel heard and understood. I am also aware of how scary it can be to put your trust in a therapist, so I always make it a priority to help put you at ease from the first contact. I also think there is something vital about taking out the shame and stigma that is still related to mental health and therapy as we are all human and all know what it feels like to struggle, be anxious, feel lost, and to need help.
My professional journey to being a therapist began in in the NHS over 30 years ago when I started out in the NHS in mental health. I have always worked in the NHS and this has provided a wonderfully rich experience of working with dedicated skills colleagues, and with wonderfully resilient people who show courage in facing the kind of exploration that therapy entails. I do believe that therapists learn as much from those they help.
I bring all of my experience to bear with every individual but if I am not right for you, as the ‘right fit’ is essential, I will help point you in the right direction. I have worked in private practice for over 10 years and now also do more teaching and supervision.
Training, Qualifications and Experience
I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (4 years training, leading to UKCP registration).
I am UKCP registered. (reg. no.00111107).
MSc. Mental Health (Psychotherapy).
I have been a ‘Digital’ Therapist since 2017 and have a Diploma in Online Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Academy for Online Therapy and Counselling. This allows me to register with ACTO, the body that aims to set standards for therapists who practice online.

I have worked in the NHS within South Lambeth and Maudsley NHS Trust, and at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. I most recently worked in Oxford in the NHS as a Psychotherapist, and practice privately.
I can help with whatever you bring. Along the way, I also have experience in the medical field, helping people with long terms health conditions, diabetes, and medically unexplained symptoms.
